Traditional Portraits in Oil

Carl’s sculptural work stems from a deep seated fascination with mechanics and materials. For over 20 years Carl has established a collection of objects that inspire and direct him. Internal engine components, antique medical equipment and musical instruments are just a few of the sources that Carl draws upon to create his works.

When a suitable object isn’t found, Carl will make one. His skills with machining, welding, electrical engineering and lifetime of dedicated craftsmanship is apparent in each of his works. Most of Carl’s sculptures are made out of steel but other metals and materials are often present. Many are illuminated or kinetic.
